About NOS
EndoGastric Solutions (EGS) is the recognized leader in the emerging field of NOS (Natural Orifice Surgery), the next step in the evolution of minimally invasive surgery. NOS is a breakthrough surgical technique where upper abdominal operations are performed with a highly specialized surgical instrument passed through a natural body orifice, such as the mouth, together with a endoscope to provide visual guidance, enabling the surgeon to avoid any abdominal incisions.
Surgical intervention for the treatment of chronic upper gastrointestinal conditions has evolved from open to laparoscopic to now incisionless NOS procedures like the TIF (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) procedure for the treatment of chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The procedure is made possible through the use of the innovative EsophyX surgical device, one of two breakthrough incisionless NOS devices developed by EGS. The TIF procedure corrects the anatomic cause of GERD, saving GERD sufferers from a lifetime of reflux drug therapy and the possible adverse side effects associated with long-term use of those drugs.

NOS is revolutionizing surgery just as laparoscopy did in the 1980s, when surgeons moved from opening the abdominal cavity to access internal organs to instead making several small incisions to insert an endoscopic camera and other surgical instruments. EGS' NOS surgical devices are introduced into the patient's body through a natural body orifice, the mouth, rather than through an incision. Called "transoral" (through the mouth) NOS surgery, the advantages of this form of surgery over laparoscopic or open surgery include the need for less anesthesia during surgery, greater safety, lower complication rate, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, reduced patient discomfort, and no scars, resulting in higher patient satisfaction. Patients are typically able to return home and to normal activities the day following the procedure.

SAGES (the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) recently published a Position Statement on Endoluminal Therapies for Gastrointestinal Diseases including GERD and Obesity in the Winter 2009 edition of its Scope publication for surgeons and on its website. The preeminent society for gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgeons, SAGES establishes recognized standards of practice to promote patient safety and the best clinical outcomes.
In the position statement, SAGES states that endoluminal therapies “have the potential to treat many common gastrointestinal conditions as effectively as more traditional invasive procedures.” To read SAGES position statement, CLICK HERE ![]()
