Redwood City, CA (December 9, 2009) — EndoGastric Solutions (EGS), the recognized leader in the emerging field of Natural Orifice Surgery (NOS), today announced the Advanced Techniques in Transoral Fundoplication CME course series for 2010. The first course, scheduled for January 28-29, 2010, in Denver, CO, will be directed by esteemed surgeons Reginald Bell, MD, Guy-Bernard Cadiére, MD, PhD, and Steven Rothenberg, MD, together with faculty members Donald Castell, MD, Philip Hanna, MD, and Theodore Stathos, MD.

The curriculum for the course was developed at two recent TIF user group meetings, one held in Brussels, Belgium, in September and another in October in Chicago, Illinois.  Both user group meetings were moderated by Professor Lars Lundell, MD, Huddinge University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, who has spent much of his research career studying the efficacy of, and mechanisms behind, different long-term therapeutic strategies for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), including PPI therapy and antireflux surgery. "Antireflux surgery is well documented as an effective strategy in controlling GERD symptoms and improving quality of life,” explained Dr. Lundell. “We recognize that the outcome after surgery is dependent on the experience and quality of the surgeon. As clinical experience grows, the TIF procedure continues to evolve. I believe TIF will play a crucial role in the treatment armamentarium for the millions of patients suffering from GERD.

The first course, “Advanced Techniques in Transoral Fundoplication,” will include didactic presentation as well as live surgery performed by Dr. Bell, Dr. Cadiére, and Dr. Rothenberg.

"Recent developments with both the device and the techniques of transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) enable the surgeon or interventional gastroenterologist to create a genuine esophagogastric fundoplication,” stated Dr. Bell. “Endoscopic appearance, manometric findings, and even pH-metric data support the symptomatic improvement that patients experience. This course will showcase the latest technical developments, with four live case demonstrations.”

Course graduates will qualify for a maximum of 12.75 AMA PRA Category I Credits (CME).
