Skip Baldino, President and CEO
Mr. Baldino has over 35 years in the healthcare industry. Just prior to his role at EndoGastric Solutions (EGS), he served four years as President, Americas for Given Imaging-a world leader in GI medical devices, offering healthcare providers a range of innovative options for visualizing, diagnosing and monitoring the digestive system. Covidien completed its acquisition of Given Imaging in February 2014 in an $860 million deal (Medtronic now acquired Covidien). Prior to Given Imaging, he enjoyed a distinguished 26-year career at Abbott Laboratories-a worldwide diversified health care company. While there, Mr. Baldino established an outstanding track record of consistent and high-performing financial and organizational success. His experience encompasses various key customer segments, as well as a wide range of product portfolios, product life-cycles, new product launches, and integrations. As a divisional Vice President, he held key commercial leadership roles in: Diabetes Care, Diagnostics, Medical Products (Corporate), Hospital Products (now known as Hospira), Health Systems, and Specialty Products.
Mr. Baldino graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Philadelphia University.
Mr. Baldino was also the Chairman of the Board of ACell, a regenerative medicine company that was focused on the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of medical devices for wound management and surgical soft tissue repair. He served on ACell’s board from 2015 until their January 2021 sale to Integra Health Sciences valued up to $400 million, including a $300M upfront payment.
Michael Burke, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Burke has more than 30 years of public and private experience working in corporate finance and banking. He joined EGS in 2015. Prior to joining EGS, he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Landauer, Inc. During his time with Landauer, Mr. Burke led various initiatives to support the company’s strategic growth and transformation of its global finance, corporate development and investor relations.
Mr. Burke is currently on the board of a NASDAQ listed environmental services company, serving on its audit and nomination & governance committees and previously served as Vice Chair of the Albany Medical Center.
Previously, Mr. Burke held public company senior leadership roles as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Albany International Corp. and as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Intermagnetics General Corporation, a medical device company, as a senior leadership team member to design and execute a business transformation and growth strategy that ultimately led to it being acquired for $1.3 billion.
Mr. Burke was also Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of HbT, Inc., having led the company’s successful raise of over $20 million in private institutional capital in advance of a planned $120 million IPO. Prior to joining HbT, Mr. Burke was a Managing Director within the U.S. Investment Banking Department of CIBC Oppenheimer Corp., and a Director for the Global Investment Banking Division of Barclays de Zoete Wedd.
Mr. Burke graduated from Lake Forest College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He also completed graduate studies at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as part of Barclays’ management development program.
Darren Crow, Vice President, R&D Operations
Mr. Crow has over 20 years of medical research and development experience. He has been with EGS since 2005 and has held a number of engineering positions at EGS including Director of Research and Development. He has led the development of several EsophyX products through successful introductions. Prior to EGS he held various engineering leadership roles at Plexus/SeaMED Corporation and Siemens Medical. His past development experience includes cardiology, radiation therapy, optical sensing and medical imaging.
He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho and a MS in Physics from University of Washington.
Adrian Lobontiu, MD, FACS, Chief Medical Officer (2005-2021)
It is with great sadness that we announce that Adrian, our colleague and friend, passed away unexpectedly in March 2021. The entire EndoGastric Solutions’ family mourns this loss. On behalf of our Board of Directors, management team and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Adrian’s family. We will honor his legacy and remember the extraordinary impact he had on the Company.
Dr. Lobontiu joined EGS in 2005 and was based in Paris, France where he managed the company’s European business at EndoGastric Solutions Europe. To date, he has performed or provided device operation support for more than 1,000 TIF procedures.
In 2012, he joined the U.S. team as the worldwide Medical Director. Dr. Lobontiu has more than 18 years of experience in surgical practice and 15 years of experience in the medical device industry. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES) and a member of the French Surgery Association (AFC).
From 1999-2005 he was Clinical Director at Intuitive Surgical Europe (NASDAQ – ISRG) where he introduced the company’s revolutionary technology to Europe, obtained CE mark before FDA approval and initiated the world’s first robotic surgical procedures. His career also includes research management roles in pharmaceutical companies such as Schering AG in Berlin, Germany. He practiced surgery at Henri Mondor University Hospital in Paris, France.
Internationally published and an invited speaker at international conferences and congresses, Dr. Lobontiu earned his MD from the University of Medicine Targu-Mures Medical School, and his Specialty in Surgery from Pierre et Marie Curie University of Medicine in Paris, France.
Martin Reid, Vice President, Sales
Mr. Reid has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining EGS, he held senior sales leadership positions in the GI space with Olympus Corporation of the Americas, Johnson & Johnson, and Given Imaging. Mr. Reid has established a consistent and successful track record of building and leading high-performance sales organizations. His experience includes launching new and paradigm shifting medical technologies, market development, IDN engagement, and Key Account partnerships.
Mr. Reid graduated from Whitworth University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business.
Ted Stephens, Vice President, Marketing and Professional Education
Mr. Stephens is a Sales and Marketing executive leader with over 20 years of diverse experience across global markets in the medical device industry. He has extensive knowledge and experience in both minimally invasive surgery and therapeutic GI markets
Prior to joining EGS he held commercial leadership positions at Novadaq, Apollo Endosurgery and Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Johnson & Jonson).
As Director of Marketing at Novadaq, Mr. Stephens was responsible for all aspects of the commercial growth strategy and execution for Novadaq’s portfolio of fluorescence imaging products.
In 2010, Mr. Stephens joined Apollo Endosurgery as the Director of Marketing and was promoted to the VP of Global Marketing where he led a global team to execute all aspects of marketing strategies for a global portfolio of products to include up and downstream product strategies, brand management, advertising, communications, medical education, healthcare economics and strategic planning. Mr. Stephens also led the commercial diligence and integration efforts for $115M acquisition of Allergan’s Obesity Products division.
Prior to his time at Apollo, Mr. Stephens spent over 16 years at Ethicon Endo-Surgery in positions of increasing responsibility to include Engineering, Account Manager, Division Manager, Product Director and Director of Market Creation developing and commercializing products and procedures in the minimally invasive surgery space.
Mr. Stephens holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Xavier University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Michigan State University.
